About Us
The Australian Armenian Film Festival (AFFA) is Australia’s only national festival dedicated to celebrating Armenian and Armenian diaspora cinema. Since its establishment in 2016, AFFA has grown into a nationally recognised cultural event that brings audiences together through the power of storytelling.
Each year, the festival presents a carefully curated program of feature films, documentaries, animations and short films from Armenia and around the world. Showcasing both established and emerging filmmakers, AFFA explores universal themes of identity, family, resilience, belonging and hope, stories that resonate across cultures and invite audiences of all backgrounds to connect through cinema.
More than a film festival, AFFA is a celebration of cinema, culture and conversation. Through filmmaker Q&As, special events and community engagement, the festival creates opportunities for cultural exchange while providing Australian audiences with a unique window into Armenia’s rich cultural heritage and contemporary creative voices.
Over the past decade, AFFA has welcomed internationally acclaimed filmmakers, industry leaders and audiences from across Australia and overseas, continuing to strengthen its reputation as an important platform for cultural dialogue and international screen storytelling.
The Australian Armenian Film Festival is proudly presented by the Hamazkaine Armenian Educational and Cultural Society (Shant Chapter), part of Hamazkaine, a global cultural organisation established in 1928. Through education, the arts and cultural initiatives around the world, Hamazkaine is committed to preserving and celebrating Armenian language, heritage and creativity for future generations.
Today, AFFA continues that mission by sharing exceptional stories that celebrate the richness of Armenian culture while building connections between communities through the universal language of film.
